WRITING FOR RADIO & AUDIO PLATFORMS
4-hr online workshop. Saturday 20th July 2024. 10am - 2pm

Writing for AUDIO
with Tutor Paul Bassett Davies

AUDIO IS A MEDIUM OF ENDLESS POSSIBILITY.
THE ONLY LIMIT IS YOUR OWN IMAGINATION.

For a writer, audio can be the most creative medium of all. It engages an audience in a uniquely powerful way, and the results can be extraordinary.

A voice... a sound... silence... music...

Audio can achieve such a dramatic impact because the listener's imagination participates in the story. No other medium can hook an audience in such a compelling way. And radio is a great way to develop your career. BBC radio is one of the world’s biggest commissioners of drama and comedy, and some broadcasts get bigger audiences than many TV shows. And now, non-broadcast platforms are growing all the time, with wildly popular podcasts and streaming services. It’s a hungry medium.

This online workshop uses carefully planned exercises and analysis to cover nearly every aspect of writing for radio and audio platforms - comedy sketches; radio sitcoms and series; drama - to explore all the possibilities of work in the medium.

COURSE CONTENT

ON THE COURSE YOU'LL LEARN:

*What makes your material ideal for audio and how
to exploit the strengths of the medium.

*How to create compelling characters.

*How to write powerful audio dialogue.

*How to write and use monologue - including internal monologue.

*How and when to use sound effects and music.
