WRITE FOR ANIMATION

Animation never goes out of style, and the best animation can create timeless classics and huge hits.
For a writer the opportunities are limitless.

But writing for animation also involves very specific skills. Character, plot and story are definitely at the heart of a successful animated film or TV show, but the ways they function and develop can differ, sometimes in subtle ways, from the dynamics of live action. This workshop gives you the tools you need to develop those skills.

YOU WILL LEARN:

  • The key to creating unforgettable animation characters.

  • World building and how to structure an animated story.

  • Crucial difference between animation and live action.

  • Writing for a family / children audience.

  • Latest trends in the animation industry and the market's segments.

  • Who are the commissioners and what do they want?

  • How to package and pitch your project.

FORMAT:

Two practical workshops over two weekends, with homework in between, aimed at screenwriters interested in writing animated TV series for a children's and family audience.

The first Saturday and Sunday workshops, taught by Paul, will focus on writing animated family & children's films and TV series.

The second Saturday and Sunday workshops, taught by Alizée, will focus on the animation industry and how writers can  package and pitch their project.

There will be opportunities to develop your own project throughout. The workshop is deliberately small to encourage participation and sharing work.
