WRITE YOUR MICRO-BUDGET FEATURE

NEW ONLINE COURSE

With the proliferation of VOD, cable and streaming outlets there are huge new windows opening for filmmakers. Buyers are hungry for exciting content and producers crave contained stories that can be produced well on a minimal budget because they're easier to finance. So a strong script for a micro-budget film is gold dust to the industry.

But how do take your ideas and characters and write a screenplay you know for sure can be made on a micro-budget and could attract a strong cast?

How do you write a contained movie which best expresses your voice as a writer and/or director?

How do you ensure you write a marketable micro-budget script which can earn distribution in the UK and overseas in a crowded marketplace?

This three-afternoons hands-on course (running over three consecutive Sunday via Google Hangouts) will help you build solid foundations for a micro-budget film script that stands a strong chance of getting made and seen.

COURSE CONTENT

On Sunday One, you will:
  • Review and discuss examples of micro-budget films.
  • Learn how to identify great source material and/or come up with ideas and concepts for a contained film.
  • Create a strategy for yourself. What's your brand? What's your genre?
  • Develop a keen understanding of aspects to keep in mind and what to avoid when writing a micro-budget script.
  • Turn your idea for a micro-budget film into a clear logline.

On Sunday Two, you will:
  • Receive professional feedback on your idea and logline. Share feedback as a group.
  • Understand how to write a character-driven script, which is more important in the micro- budget realm when you don't have the budget for flashy VFX or action sequences.
  • Find out out how to develop your idea into an effective 1-page outline

On Sunday Three, you will:
  • Receive professional feedback on your one-page outline and characters. Workshop your homework with the other students.
  • Explore ways of seeking and addressing feedback in the micro-budget context.

* You don't need to have an idea to do the course but some homework will be required in-between the three sessions so that you can make the most of the sessions.
