How to Write the Romance-Drama Screenplay
As Jane Austin and the Brontës knew only too well, love stories sell – big time. But as any Mills & Boon writer will tell you, writing a great love story isn’t as easy as you’d think. The journey from ‘They meet’ to ‘They live happily ever after’ can be a rocky road littered with clichéd dialogue, pointless plots and one-dimensional characters. During these exercises we look at: THE PUSH-AND-PULL OF DESIRE VS FEAR Still single? Why? SECONDARY CHARACTERS Mom and Pop, the sidekick bestie, the comedy ‘ex’ THE SETTING What can it add to the plot? If you’ve never written a romance drama screenplay before, come along and have some fun with other writers. If you’re stuck in the middle of your screenplay, try some exercises which may help you progress. |
