THE EUROSCRIPT SPEAKEASY IS BACK!
TUESDAY 25 FEBRUARY
CENTRAL LONDON
AGENT, MANAGER OR LAWYER?!
It’s the Great Debate for all screenwriters.
Professional writers have traditionally been represented by agents, who put them up for gigs, market their original projects, negotiate contracts and take a tidy cut of their income along the way. But times are changing. It’s always been tough to get an agent - and it’s getting even harder, as the industry adapts to a changing media landscape. So should writers now be looking at the American model - working with a “talent manager” - or perhaps just using a media lawyer instead, as and when required? What are the pros and cons of each, and how do they all work in practice? What are the alternatives when you don’t have an agent? Our esteemed panel of industry guests will discuss this crucial issue: BRENDAN FOLEY Brendan is an award-winning Northern Irish Writer-EP with international co-pro experience in TV drama, feature films and bestselling books. Past work with CW, Warner Bros Discovery, Lionsgate, Sony, BBC, CBC, NBC, AMC, ITVx, Viaplay, Acorn, Universal, Elisa, Croton and others. Most recently: 2025 series Sherlock & Daughter for CW, Warner Bros Discovery, SBS, starring David Thewlis; two seasons of hit series: The Man Who Died for streamer Elisa, AMC/Acorn; Cold Courage for Viaplay, AMC+, Britbox and Lionsgate.
Formerly a freelance international business features journalist in 77 countries, he likes people, cats and commas. ANGELA JACKSON Top Media Lawyer Angela runs an independent media law firm, established in London in 1995. She specialises in film and media work, working with clients including financiers, writers, directors, actors and independent production companies and advising on feature film development finance and distribution, contract negotiation and intellectual property.
