10 Development Steps
IN PERSON IN LONDON
This workshop is for writers of short and feature-length film screenplays. It will help you develop a better understanding of the script development process and an effective writing strategy at the outset. The script is inarguably the most important element in producing a successful movie, and script development the most undervalued and least appreciated aspect of producing a movie. And yet, ironically, script development is the least expensive aspect of making a movie, costing anything from zero to a few thousand pounds, a fraction of the cost of even a micro-budget movie, and far less than renting a fancy camera package or having snazzy VFX, none of which will matter if the script is not fully developed. So the chances of success start with a fully developed script. But how do you get a fully developed script? Rewriting, rewriting, rewriting - in short, story development. But blindly rewriting in a vacuum is not going to give you the success you're aiming for. You need a strategy, a solid plan to give you the best chance of developing a script you can market to the industry. But crafting a great script takes time, an openness to feedback, bum in the seat hard work, and expert guidance from industry professionals along the way. Based on my experience developing screenplays and working with writers from all walks of life, I've created a one-day course focused on the development process, to ensure you have a clear script development strategy. The course is suitable for short and feature length scripts and will give you a step-by-step plan of action to develop your script from initial idea to an industry-ready script. During the workshop we will cover: Step 1. Ideation from Title to Step-Outline. Step 2. The Vomit Draft. Step 3. The 1st Draft (D1) Step 4. Trusted Readers Notes. Step 5. Re-Write (D2) Step 6. Hire Professional Script Consultants. Step 7. Re-write (D3). Step 8. Script Competitions + Coverage. Step 9. Staged Readings & Audience Questionnaire. Step 10. Re-write (D4), pitching – ready to launch! During this interactive workshop you'll have the opportunity to discuss your own projects. Who is this course for? - Writers or writer-directors who'd like to develop a better understanding of how to write more efficiently and improve their creative process. - Producers keen to develop their skills when working with screenplays and writers. - Those in other creative industries who are curious to know more about script development. |
