ADVANCED STORYTELLING

2025 EUROSCRIPT SUMMER SCHOOL
IN CENTRAL LONDON
A THREE-DAY WORKSHOP ON MAKING STORIES
WITH MAXIMUM EMOTIONAL IMPACT
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Great stories often hide their methods. This workshop will uncover them.
We'll explore misdirection, foreshadowing, incremental flashback, controlled use of information, framing and chaptering, stories within stories, and many more methods, giving writers a valuable range of new, inspiring tools. We’ll look closely at how master storytellers plant ideas, break patterns at perfect moments, and generally design stories that percolate in the minds of audiences long after the ending. This non-residential Summer School workshop is for writers in any genre who want to move beyond formula and learn how to manipulate rhythm, expectation, and subtext to build narrative with real depth. What makes a story truly memorable isn’t just what happens. It's how it's told. Learn the deeper techniques that shape emotion, build suspense, and leave lasting impact. WHO IS THE WORKSHOP AIMED AT? Writers in all genres who want to find new angles on stories that will make their projects stand out, and to deepen their understanding of narrative and story methods. You will also gain practical experience of giving and receiving on-the-spot feedback in a supportive and encouraging environment. And as well as learning a lot, you'll meet other like-minded individuals. Friendships are often formed, and collaborations can ensue. HOW IT WILL WORK
Ideally, you'll bring the germ of an idea to the class - something you'd like to work on, and that may benefit from the techniques we're learning.
OR we can help you form an idea which you can develop with the help of exercises. As participants get acquainted with each others' ideas, the ensuing process will be supportive and helpful. As the various topics are introduced, we'll work out ways to apply them to the story ideas in the class. Expect close analysis, practical exercises, and new ways of seeing your own storycraft. You'll work towards an outline of your own story. THE FINAL AFTERNOON Participants of all three Summer School courses will join together to share their work and get feedback. Note: around an hour’s “homework” will be required before the start of the course and in-between sessions. |
