WRITING FOR ANIMATION

Animation never goes out of style, and the best animation can create timeless classics and huge hits. For a writer the opportunities are limitless.

But writing for animation also involves very specific skills, and you need to learn a new set of rules in order to practice the craft successfully. This workshop gives you the tools you need to develop those skills.

Some of the dynamics of animation may not be quite as obvious as you think. Character, plot and story are definitely at the heart of a successful animated film or TV show, but the ways they function and develop can differ, sometimes in subtle ways, from the dynamics of live action.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

  • The key to creating unforgettable animation characters
  • How to build a fully realised 'world' with your writing.
  • Crucial differences between animation and live action.
  • Where you can go, and how to take the audience with you.
  • Structure discipline in a universe of limitless possibilities.
  • Where to start.
  • Common pitfalls and errors.
Please note, places are strictly limited: this is a workshop based on exercises, participation and personal feedback, not a lecture.
