Reviews by previous participants:

Brilliant! - LS

Well structured, relaxed. challenging and it definitely helped! It forces you to improve in a friendly way - Richard Harrington, award-winning director.

I attended the Exciting Treatments course early 2011 with Charles Harris. It was an excellent and well structured day. The treatment I wrote as a result was submitted to the Film Agency for Wales and I was awarded a nice bit of money to write the feature length script. I am on my second draft and about to submit it for reading. I would have struggled with the treatment had I not attended the course. It gave me the confidence and tools to create a lean, attention-grabbing story. I am a director and writer with many years experience in TV - factual and drama - but now I am on my way to realizing my true dream as a filmmaker.  - Daf Palfrey, writer-director

My third class with Charles. He was, again, excellent. He has such fantastic expertise and such refined and engaging teaching methods. The learning is tangible. V.v.v good... - James Roblin, script reader/screenwriter.

Don't try to approach submitting a treatment until you have done this course  - Simon Morgan, screenwriter (two scripts sold).

I recommend it to anyone dealing with narrative. Very liberating and dynamic. - TJ

ScreenLab: Exciting Treatments

Saturday 25th February 2012
10.30am-5.30pm
Tutor:  Charles Harris

Planning, editing or selling a script?

You need a treatment.

And not just any treatment - you need a treatment that inspires you to write your best, a treatment that clarifies the story beats, one that draws you and your readers into the story and holds them there till the end.

Treatment writing is where many otherwise skilled screenwriters can go seriously wrong.

In this practical and inspiring workshop we'll teach you the secrets of writing strong and involving treatments for cinema, TV single and series proposals.

Charles Harris is an award-winning writer-director and a leading exponent of the art of writing treatments. He creates a warm, constructive atmosphere, with expert feedback, for you to raise your writing skills to the highest levels.

About the day

This workshop is designed to improve your treatment writing skills and give you insights into your style, ideas and story.

As an experienced writer-director Charles has successfully written treatments all his professional life. He knows only too well how challenging it can be to condense a full script or series into just a few gripping pages.

Everything starts from your story premise. He will analyse top professional treatments for you, showing how they evolve organically from their central ideas.

One of the problems is dealing with all the different kinds of treatments, outlines and synopses you need to provide for producers and financiers. Charles will lead you through the differences and show how to use each one for the maximum impact.

He fires you up to work on your own ideas with a series of practical and interactive exercises to build the strongest structure and then fill it with compelling characters and action.

He teaches you to expand your core treatment in intuitive steps.

You will learn how to build to one page, then two pages (ideal for the Euroscript Competition) and onwards, through to fifty page "Master" Treatments, and Charles will show how you can use each length for its maximum impact.

Treatments demand very different styles from scripts. Charles teaches you to draw on a very natural writing voice as a basis for creating flowing, attractive treatments that do the fullest justice to the story or series you want to create.

No matter where you are, beginner or advanced, first idea or completed screenplay, you will gain a powerful new understanding of how treatments work and how to write the very best .
