THE ATTRACTION OF ROMCOM
Some of the most memorable and enjoyable films of all time, starring the biggest stars in the world, have been RomComs, with quotable lines and instantly recognisable scenes.
From "Silver Linings Playbook", "When Harry Met Sally", "Four Weddings and a Funeral", going all the way back to "It Happened One Night" and "The Philadelphia Story", RomComs have the potential to charm and enchant as good cinema always should.
Though a recent shift in the industry has seen the RomCom fall out of favour, following a series of high-profile flops, independent gems like "Obvious Child" as well as unusual spins on the genre are still popular, and
demonstrate the neverending appeal of films that tackle romance with wit and originality. With lower budgets and unknown cast members being favoured, a sparkling RomCom holds potential for writers to really make their mark among the raft of special effects superhero movies.
This one-off ALL DAY genre workshop will use examples from some well-known films to show where RomComs can be original, witty, and touching, and will give tips on how to avoid the most common flaws.
Through analysis of various scenes and script examples, participants will gain a stronger understanding of the genre, and learn how to ensure their RomCom script charms.
