Comments included:

(What did you like about this workshop?) 'All of it.'
GS.

'Changes the way you think and feel... The "vertical visualisation" session rocks.'
Ian Maddison, production company head

'Very useful... for any creative endeavour... and life.'
 BH

'Just wanted to say a big thank you for Saturday's workshop. I really enjoyed it... the benefits of the day certainly became more apparent to me. I have read a little about NLP before, but you have intrigued me enough to want to pursue it further."
Susan Wilkins, screenwriter for over 25 years (around 130 broadcast scripts)

'The Mental Game for Writing workshop is about appreciating the art of BEING, rather than WANTING TO BE a writer. Although the emphasis during this day is less on screenwriting technique, the art of being free via the usage of NLP techniques given here is a good point of reference to any writer or wannabe writer.'
John Higgins, trainee screenwriter

'All the steps created a shift... I took action, went to Cannes, did more networking, had renewed energy to write another 3 drafts, believed that I really would achieve my goal. More importantly I was now enjoying the process.'
Penny Macleod, screenwriter
(After the workshop, Penny entered and came joint second in the Cannes pitching contest, and is now working with a production company on her next movie).

The Mental Game for Success

Saturday 31 March - Sunday 1 April
10.30am-5.30pm
Tutor: Charles Harris

Skill and talent is not enough - for successful writers it's the mental game that makes the difference. We have to believe in ourselves, sharpen our insights, understand the audience and play to our strengths.

Yet nobody teaches us how to find the inner skills we need - most times we either find them by luck or not at all.

This very practical, inspiring two-day workshop teaches you how to find those essential resources. You will gain new insights into yourself and you will leave with a fresh understanding of how to become the creative person you can be.

The weekend

This course is based on a totally new approach to the job of being a screenwriter. It draws on fast psychological techniques from a number of schools, including NLP and family therapy, and concepts I have long used as a director working with writers and actors.

These form the basis of a series of easy and inspiring exercises which will allow you to discover what makes you tick, and how to overcome your blocks and fears.

You will learn how to take a short-cut path to your goals, how to control and use your emotions in powerful ways, how to find the self-belief every artist needs to achieve long lasting creative success.

You will discover how the language you use can have profound effects, and learn how to play to your strengths in creating stories, characters, action and dialogue.

You will rediscover how to enjoy your work, how to live in the moment and yet also take action for the future.

You will take away a series of practical techniques that you can use every day not only in your work, but also to help those around you.

  • Dealing with self-sabotage
