FUNDING FOR YOUR SCREENWRITING TRAINING
Although we try to keep our prices as low as possible, we appreciate that some participants may still need financial assistance with the costs.
We offer concessionary prices to members of a number of organisations.
There are many other bursary opportunities available for writers and filmmakers if you know where to look. Indeed financial support for training in the arts can often be found in some quite surprising places. Here are the sources we've heard about so far, but you may find others - if so please pass the word on so we can add them to the list.
Note some schemes have strict deadlines and we advise you to make your approaches to them in good time.
Skillset offers bursaries of up to 80% for those who want to develop their careers in film and TV. Availability of the bursaries depends on how much they have at their disposal and on the time of their financial year, so it is worth checking their site out at frequent intervals www.skillset.org/. They also offer personal advice on how best to develop your career www.skillset.org/careers/ and their website has details of other funding sources that are worth checking out: www.skillset.org/funding/
Your local authority
Alll local authorities have provision to assist adults in their area who need further training. In some cases, they may even have specific funds to help with media training. Each local authority works differently, but is definitely worth approaching and we have had some signal successes with, for example, writers gaining funding from their local authority to book a year's worth of courses.
Regional and national development agencies
You should also talk to the media development agency that covers the region where you work or live. You can click through to all the UK regional and national film agencies from our links page.
The Arts Council supports individual artists with small bursaries for professional development and training opportunities in the arts and arts management, organised by region. Check which region applies to you here.
The British Film Institute has taken over responsibility from the UK Film Council for all development support and funding.
