Children and teenagers go through their entire education often without reading a single TV or movie screenplay. As a result, they remain largely ignorant of how material for the big and little screens gets made - what processes, artistic and otherwise, it has to go through; as well as how screenwriting differs from other kinds of creative writing.
Through its sessions and short courses on the art and practice of screenwriting, adapted especially for schools and colleges, Euroscript aims to encourage young people to participate and engage with the media more actively and directly, as well as helping to nurture any future Paul Abbotts or Richard Curtis's. Each session or course can take place either inside or outside school hours; and can be altered with regards to timing, form and subject matter, according to the needs of the educational institution and the national curriculum (for example, a session on adapting novels for the screen could, if so desired, focus on how a particular set text has become a movie). |
