Tuesday 29th July
Drama - including Coming Of Age
6.15pm to 9.30pm
Tutor: Charles Harris
With Drama we discover an enormously
varied genre that has remained popular in both commercial and artistic terms for decades, while offering the widest
range to the writer, from Personal Drama to
Road
Movie, Political Drama to Passage Rite and
Coming of Age.
Many of the greatest and most exciting movies
have come from this genre, which often delivers the best opportunities to develop complex and
fascinating characters and provide juicy
roles for newcomers and top star actors
alike.
In addition, many writers of other kinds of
movies or TV scripts find themselves
struggling to understand a subplot that is in
the Drama genre.
If you are writing for Multiplex, Indie
cinema or modern TV series or one-off, you
need to know about the similarities and
differences between the many subgenres and
how the writer must satisfy very
intense audience expectations with style and
sensitivity.
We
will also help you tease out which genre or
genres are at work in your own projects, and
give advice and feedback on how to strengthen
their effect and make them work to the
advantage of the script.
