In the first half of the day, we help you improve your dialogue skills, learning how characters express themselves, and harnessing the power of spoken language to create drama and subtext.
We look at the role of good dialogue in cinema and TV and give you the chance to try out different methods that writers use to create distinctive voices, so that you can develop a dialogue style that suits your story and themes and find your own unique dramatic voice.
In the afternoon, we work on editing and rewriting dialogue - using the editing process to sharpen and refine characters' words, and making dialogue reveal deeper meaning in subtle and indirect ways.
You will also learn about redrafting techniques through working on a rough draft of what was to become one of the most acclaimed movies in recent years.
We deal with typical dialogue problems, such as how to improve dialogue that refuses to come to life, how to represent accents and dialects and how to use voice-over.
You will leave with an information pack of examples of different dialogue styles, a dialogue scene which you have created and refined yourself, and feedback on your work.
