REAL PEOPLE OR PLOT ZOMBIES?
Real people have passions and fears. Likes and dislikes. Strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes they take life head-on, other times they run and hide. Their behaviour is complex. Why? Because human beings all have something in common: a history.
Everybody comes from somewhere - with a past that has shaped the way they are now, what they believe and thus the decisions they make. Why is it then writers spend so little time thinking about a character’s past? Why do they expect an audience to invest in their protagonist when they themselves haven’t bothered?
Euroscript’s CHARACTER-BUILDING WORKSHOP will help you excavate your protagonist’s history to uncover what’s in their heart and how their mind processes. Then - when you know them like an old friend - you’ll be sure exactly what they’d do in any given circumstance. As the old adage goes: ‘character drives plot.’
Building your characters in this way means they’ll feel like real people – and not just plot zombies.
