Thinking of Going to Cannes?

Tuesday 16th March 2010
7.00 to 9.30pm
Tutor: Charles Harris

The Cannes Film Festival and Market is a crucial place for any writer, director or producer who wants to develop their career, but at first sight it's a scary and confusing place.

If you're going to Cannes, or just thinking about it, this evening is a must.

Will Dingli, one of the writers who came last year, says that one simple tip he learned on the workshop, that he wouldn't have thought of otherwise, led to him to meeting a producer who gave him a commission.

He'll be there to tell you what it was.

What simple tip might tip the balance in your favour when you come to this workshop yourself?

The evening

When you come to the Euroscript Cannes Evening, you'll get the inside story on how to prepare, who to see and how to make the best use of your time. You'll also establish a network of friendly faces for when you're there. And we'll add you to our free Cannes networking list.

You will start with an overview of the Cannes Film Festival and Market, how they connect up, and how they fit into the film industry's sales calendar of the year.

You will learn how to prepare - what contacts to make in advance and what material you'll need to take with you.

We'll discuss the best way to manage your time when you are there, where to find and meet the right people, how to get advice on the spot, where to see friendly faces and how to get into those famous Cannes parties. You will also find out the mistakes you'll want to avoid. You will learn how to impress producers - and how not to!

Finally, there's that file packed with industry contacts you'll come back with after the Festival - you will see how to follow up and turn those contacts into script sales and movies.

This is an informal evening, with ample opportunity for the participants to ask questions and discuss their own projects. The bar will be open for drinks and you are encouraged to stay and talk after the discussion is over.
